I went to a portfolio day in the city near my town, and I had both observational and comic-esque pieces. Apparently, all art schools think that anyone who likes to draw in anime-style is ripping off of ANYTHING. It's become so popular that they're sick of it.

But in seriousness, I got critiqued by five schools, three of them being full-blown art schools. I got some REAL good advice from them, especially in regards to realism and observation being the building blocks to more whimsical pieces. The fourth (liberal arts) school was okay; The last school pretty much blew me off...
